Consumer Advice Dealing with Debt Collectors—Including the New Federal Rules

Posted by Ryan D. Peterson | Feb 01, 2022 | 0 Comments

For some really great information regarding best practices when it comes to dealing with debt collectors, check out this article written by April Kuehnhoff and published by the National Consumer Law Center. The article is based on an updated chapter in NCLC's Surviving Debt (available for a limited time digitally to the public at no charge). The advice now considers new consumer rights and new consumer risks flowing from federal rules that just went into effect on November 30, 2021. For more detail on these rules (the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Regulation F on the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act), refer to this article, which summarizes the rules and provides links for more detail to NCLC's newly revised Fair Debt Collection.
